A friend recently reached out to learn what she could do for a sore throat. A sore throat is often the first sign that we may be getting worn down or catching a cold. Ayurvedic cold remedies work by supporting the body’s natural defense system.  When you feel the first signs of a sore throat try these tips and remedies.
  • Get to bed early, ideally before 10 pm, and get ample rest.
  • Avoid sugar, processed foods and dairy.
  • Enjoy nourishing bone broth, mineral vegetable broth or soups.

Turmeric Gargle

1 cup boiled water
1/2 tsp turmeric
1/2 tsp sea salt
Stir all the ingredients together in a mug, let cool to a comfortable temperature, then gargle 2-3 times a day.


Soothing Throat Tea

1 tsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp licorice root
In  a medium pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil, then turn down to a simmer for 5-10 minutes.  Strain and drink.


Thyme Tea

4 cups water
4 tbsp thyme
fresh lemon juice
1 tbsp honey
In either a pot or mason jar with a lid, pour boiling water over the thyme leaves and steep for 10 minutes.  Then strain and add the juice of 1/2 – 1 lemon, based on flavor that you like, then add honey.
