Maintaining balanced digestion is at the core of preventative medicine, health and healing. 

Digestion is governed by agni, the biological fire in your stomach, liver and tissues that fuels digestion and regulates absorption and metabolism. If your digestion is balanced you experience Sama Agni and will digest, assimilate and eliminate well.

If your digestion is not balanced you may experience gas, bloating, constipation, acid reflux, diarrhea, fatigue and a host of other symptoms or illnesses.

There are four states of agni. The classic texts tell us that balanced or Sama agni provides the foundation for strong immunity and a long life. If you aren't experiencing balanced digestion, Sama Agni, perhaps it is time to cleanse to give your digestive system a reset.

Holistic nutritionist and personal chef, @laurenmontelbano of the Vibrant Veg, will cook your phase 1 & 3 lunch and dinners for you which includes 14 meals. You will be cooking each morning’s breakfast as well as the main kitchari purifying dish during phase 2.

Brassica bowl with Caesar dressing
Creamy miso lentils with roasted radishes and spiced greens

Black-eyed peas and greens with turmeric rice
Chana Palak
Buckwheat lentil crepes with hummus, cumin carrots and kale
Broccoli lemon soup
Grain and Legume bowl with herbed tahini sauce
Quinoa and veggies with herbed lemon pine nut dressing
Quinoa cakes with roasted Brussels with shiitake bacon
Warm beet, fennel and white bean salad

Spring is here! Spring is the season when the qua Spring is here!

Spring is the season when the qualities of Kapha are dominant—heavy, cool, damp, slow, cloudy, sticky and stable. 

Outside the temperature rises, snow melts, the sap begins to flow and the first tentative shoots break through the ground. 

To balance during the spring, counter these qualities with a diet and activities that are warming, light, dry and mobile. Common signs of imbalance are allergies, congestion, weight gain, lethargy, excessive sleep and depression.

In Ayurveda dirgha ayuh, a long life, is the aim. In Ayurveda dirgha ayuh, a long life, is the aim. My 95 year old grandfather and I spent the day together going to the funeral of his brother Bill's wife, my aunt Joyce, who passed at 98 years. 

Losing Joyce will leave big gap. She brought joy, humor, and lightness to every room.

My elders carry deep wisdom and are the history holders for stories beyond my time. It is my elders who have inspired me on the path of wellness. Last summer, my grandfather was still golfing twice a week and he does his rowing machine every week! He claims blueberries are his secret to longevity. I think it may be his tenacity.

Here are a few insights my grandfather has shared over the years- 

✨You have to accept people for who they are, not who you want them to be. 

✨I don't expect you to be anything other than you are. 
 
✨You are out in left field compared to the rest of us yet we love you very much. 

✨I am just trying to keep good vibes in my mind, you should too.

✨Just try your best to be loving.

Time passes swiftly and opportunities can be lost. Make the time. Hold your dear ones close.
