When the weather drastically changes it can throw off our internal equilibrium. Taking care of ourselves day-in-day-out is the best preventative - eating whole foods, drinking herbal teas and getting ample rest. ⠀

  • Loving-kindness meditation is a practice of developing compassion for ourselves and others. It comes from the Buddhist tradition, though it can be adapted and practiced by anyone. Loving-kindness meditation is essentially about cultivating love. ⠀

The practice begins by wishing yourself loving-kindness, then someone you cherish or love, then someone who feels neutral, then someone you find challenging and finally, extend the wish to all beings. ⠀

  • The more complicated life is, the simpler one's diet should be. Digestion is the cornerstone of Ayurveda. When life seems full or complicated, give your body extra support by eating simple and easy to digest foods. ⠀

One of the simplest, most nourishing recipes I learned to make when I was in India at Vaidyagrama Healing Center was Pongal. A south India dish of mung beans and rice. I make it when life is busy with little time to cook elaborate meals or when my digestion needs a little extra support. ⠀

On any given day we take in a tremendous amount of stimulus. Processing so many emails, scrolling feeds, reading the news, streams of thoughts, tasks at work, conversations... the list could go on and on. ⠀

We must digest everything we think, feel and experience. ⠀

It can be helpful and restorative to unplug from time to time. Sundays in silence. It’s a great day to unplug from devices and decision making. Decisions, emails and social media can wait until tomorrow. ⠀

Rather then grabbing a device, how about reading a book or going for a walk in nature. Give your senses a break and an opportunity to restore.⠀
