We have entered March, coming closer to Spring, yet it certainly feels as if we are still in the heart of winter.  Eating in tune with the seasons, in the colder months I crave warming foods like this nourishing breakfast porridge inspired by Nourished Kitchen.  For years I couldn’t eat grains such as rice, or […]

This is a very simple, flavorful and fairly quick homemade chicken soup.   It is nourishing and the perfect cure for fending off winter colds. 2 quart water 2 chicken breast or thighs, bone in + skin on 1 small onion, chopped 3 carrots, chopped + divided 3 celery stalks, chopped + divided 2 cloves […]

The holidays are not complete without a great cranberry sauce, this is my favorite!  Enjoy as a side dish or as a topping over stewed apples. 1 pint cranberries 4 clementines (peel and flesh) 1/2 cup sugar Place all ingredients in the food processor, pulse until well minced and mixed. Refrigerate then serve and enjoy!

One of the best things about having a dinner party is having great friends that bring remarkable desserts.  Last year my friend Amy brought this dessert to my house and I have been wanting to make it ever since.  The recipe is actually adapted from ‘Sweet Gratitude,’ a fabulous book of raw desserts.  There is […]

And to Amy, my dear friend who made […]

Growing up my mother made roasts weekly.  The warmth and aroma of caramelized onions, vegetables and meat was comforting and certainly a joy to come home to in the colder months.  I have been searching for a roast that fills my home with pleasant aromas and is attuned to my present day palate.  This pork […]

This delicious recipe comes from my dear friend Destin Layne who works passionately to create positive social change throughout our food system.  This recipe was featured in New York Spirit and I am delighted to share it with you! I enjoyed it for dinner last night topped with ground flax seed along side a salad, however […]

Generally I am not a fan of tomatoes.  I do not like the squishy, seedy center.  I grew up eating meaty heirloom tomatoes out of my grandmother’s garden coated in sugar, yes lots of sugar.  This year I have been given bags and bags of tomatoes by generous students and neighbors.  I needed to find […]

After spending the holiday weekend in southern Indiana, I pulled into my driveway to discover the slight smell of fall and the sight of fallen leaves beginning to blanket my lawn.  That night a strong rain storm blew in cooler temperatures that made my bones feel fall’s pending arrival.  To warm my bones and welcome […]
